FAM tours are designed to give planners a real sense of a destination. Not just the venues, but the feeling of what an event could be.

At the recent FAM tour hosted at the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, we wanted to contribute something small, intentional, and a little unexpected.

Instead of a traditional photo activation, we created personalized spice labels using products from Wood’s Homes YCAP Market. Each attendee received a custom-labeled spice featuring their name, turning a simple takeaway into something personal.

It was a subtle activation, but that was the point.

In a setting where the focus is on connection, conversation, and experiencing Calgary as a host city, the goal wasn’t to pull attention away. It was to add to the experience in a way that felt considered and relevant.

Guests paused, smiled, and engaged. Some compared labels, others asked questions about the market and where the products came from. While the experience felt simple, it also created a natural opportunity for data capture. Attendees were invited to provide their email address, giving a way to extend the interaction beyond the event without interrupting the flow.

Something we think about a lot when designing activations for conferences is that not every experience needs to be high energy or high volume. Sometimes the most effective ideas are the ones that feel personal, grounded, and aligned with the tone of the event.

For planners visiting Calgary and thinking about their own conferences, it was a small example of how even simple touchpoints can be elevated.

And for us, it was a reminder that the best activations don’t just create content, they create moments people remember.
